Microsoft 365 Price Increase from 1st July 2026 – What UK Businesses Need to Know

Microsoft has confirmed a global pricing and packaging update across its Microsoft 365 commercial suites, effective 1st July 2026. These changes will affect both new and existing customers, with revised pricing applied at renewal for current subscriptions and immediately for new purchases after the rollout date.

For UK businesses, this represents a notable adjustment across core Microsoft 365 licensing plans and provides an important opportunity to review subscriptions, upcoming renewals, and overall licensing strategy.

What is changing?

Microsoft is updating pricing across several Microsoft 365 business plans as part of a wider packaging and product evolution across its cloud services.

The key changes affecting UK business customers include:

  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic – increase of approximately 15–17%
  • Microsoft 365 Business Standard – increase of approximately 10–12%
  • Microsoft 365 Business Premium – broadly no headline price increase in most markets

Other enterprise and frontline plans may also see adjustments depending on SKU and licensing structure.

These updates reflect ongoing investment in Microsoft 365 services, including security enhancements, cloud infrastructure improvements, and AI-driven productivity features.

When do the changes take effect?

The rollout follows a consistent global model:

  • New customers: Updated pricing applies from 1st July 2026
  • Existing customers: New pricing applies at the first renewal on or after 1st July 2026
  • Current agreements: Customers renewing before this date will retain existing pricing for the duration of their current contract term

This creates a clear window for organisations to review and potentially optimise licensing before renewal.

What this means for UK businesses

While price increases are never ideal, the structure of this update creates several important considerations for organisations.

1. The gap between Business Standard and Business Premium has narrowed

With Business Standard increasing and Business Premium remaining broadly stable, the price difference between these two plans has reduced.

This is significant because Business Premium includes additional capabilities such as:

  • Advanced security protection
  • Endpoint and device management (Microsoft Intune)
  • Enhanced identity and access controls
  • Improved compliance and data protection tools

As a result, many organisations may find that Business Premium now offers stronger overall value for money, particularly where security and compliance requirements are a priority.

2. Licensing optimisation is increasingly important

With pricing changes affecting most Microsoft 365 business tiers, organisations should take the opportunity to review their current licensing position, including:

  • Whether all assigned licences are actively used
  • If users are on the most appropriate plan for their role
  • Whether consolidation or reallocation could reduce costs
  • If annual commitments could provide cost stability ahead of renewal

A structured review ahead of renewal can help avoid unnecessary cost increases and ensure licensing aligns with business needs.

3. Continued investment in platform capabilities

Microsoft’s pricing updates reflect ongoing development across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including:

  • Expanded security and threat protection capabilities
  • Continued development of AI-powered productivity tools
  • Ongoing improvements to cloud infrastructure and compliance features

While these enhancements add value, not every organisation will require the same level of functionality, making tailored licensing decisions increasingly important.

What you should do next

If your organisation uses Microsoft 365, now is the right time to:

  • Review upcoming renewal dates
  • Assess current licensing usage and suitability
  • Compare Business Standard vs Business Premium options
  • Consider securing current pricing ahead of July 2026 where possible

Taking a proactive approach now can help minimise cost impact and ensure your organisation is correctly licensed from both a financial and security perspective.
